All participants are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the digital exam environment by logging into the competition portal and taking practice competitions.
Enthusiastic students are encouraged to
- do lots of practice problems, and
- deeply learn the content the AMC is based on.
For reference, the Art of Problem Solving offers a list of preparation resources.
We ask that every participant bring the following:
- the email address used to create your competition account,
- your password for your competition account, and
- some form of photo identification.
The AMC Policies website maintains the official competition rules. We will highlight the following:
- JCU will provide blank scratch paper for all participants.
- Participants may only have writing utensils, rulers, compasses, and erasers during the competition.
- No calculators or phones and similar electronic devices of any kind are allowed.
Address: Dolan Science Center, 1 John Carroll Blvd, University Heights, OH 44118
GPS will likely bring you onto campus through the main gate on Carroll Blvd, where you can obtain a (free) visitor parking pass if someone is there.
As you enter the Carroll Gate, Dolan Science Center is the big building directly in front of you. There is typically more parking available in the Dolan East Lot (turn right). You will see signs for faculty/staff reserved parking; these pertain only to the spots closest to the building (i.e. along the building and/or grass).
The main entrance doors to the Dolan Science Center are toward the center of the building. The Math, Comp Sci, and Data Sci (MCDS) department is on the 2nd floor of the East side of the building. Signs will direct you to the competition classroom. After dropping off their participant, adults are welcome to wait at tables and chairs in the lobby close to the competition classroom.
