Ron Thomas, a sports writer and copy editor for four decades, is the first director of Morehouse College’s Journalism and Sports Program. Mr. Thomas received the 2011 Excellence in Sports Journalism Lifetime Achievement Award from Northeastern University’s School of Journalism and Center for the Study of Sport in Society. He was specifically honored for his articles and publications about the racial dimensions of sports.

Thomas was USA Today’s first NBA reporter and editor. He worked for 28 years in the San Francisco Bay Area, covering the Golden State Warriors and San Francisco 49ers for the San Francisco Chronicle. Thomas later worked for the San Francisco Examiner, covering baseball’s San Francisco Giants, college sports, and professional tennis. Thomas was also a freelance sports writer and copy editor, contributing articles to BlackAmericaWeb.com and the NAACP’s Crisis Magazine.
