All graduates, especially those whose names are often mispronounced, are asked to create a recording with the correct pronunciation of their first and last names. These recordings are then given to the deans of the College of Arts and Sciences and the Boler College of Business to practice before the Commencement ceremony. The phone lines will be open between March 1 and May 1, 2020.

When you call, you will hear the following greeting:
“Thank you for calling the Commencement Name Pronunciation line for the College of Arts and Sciences/Boler College of Business. In a moment, you will be prompted to supply three pieces of information: your banner number, the pronunciation of your first name, and the pronunciation of your last name. Please speak slowly and clearly.”
“Please say your Banner number.” You will hear a beep and record your Banner number.
“Please say your first name.” You will hear a beep and record your first name.
“Please say your last name.” You will hear a beep and record your last name.
Once you are done recording the requested information, you will hear the following: “Your responses were,” at which point the system will play back the three recordings and then say, “To accept your responses, press 1. To change your responses, press 9.” If you press 9, the system will not play the introduction again, but immediately prompt you to record the three pieces of information again. Once you press 1 to accept the responses, you will hear a closing announcement then may hang up.
