Recent John Carroll University graduate William Cook ’13, who double majored in political science and French, recently earned a diploma in business French from the Paris Chamber of Commerce. Cook, of Palos Heights, Illinois, graduated from JCU in May 2013. He studied at the University of Paris during his sophomore year, and served for four years with JCU’s We the People Service Learning Program, helping fifth-grade students in Cleveland learn about the U.S. Constitution and citizenship. To earn the diploma, Cook passed a series of examinations in comprehending, writing, and speaking French in business settings. The written and listening portions of the test were sent from Paris, administered on the JCU campus, and then returned to Paris for evaluation. Cook also took two oral examinationswith French speakers living in the Cleveland area.
