JCU counseling students with Patrick Moy (first row, second in from the left) from The Actors from the London Stage. On March 15th, Patrick Moy from The Actors from the London Stage acting company conducted a workshop with the JCU counseling students. Patrick Moy along with other actors from The Actors from the London Stage acting company visited John Carroll while on tour performing A Midsummers Night’s Dream. Each actor from the company got to choose a department with the JCU community to conduct a workshop with. Patrick personally choose the counseling department because of his history working at a hospice center in London, England. Additionally, this event was sponsored by the Beta Chi counseling honors society. During the workshop, Patrick shared acting exercises with the counseling students to increase immediate awareness, genuineness, expressing emotion, and public speaking. Students participated in various activities including reading a scene from Hamlet when practicing these skills. These acting exercises not only taught students interesting acting methods, but also unique skills that can be used within a therapy session. Examples of these skills are being comfortable with eye contact, acceptance, empathy, and listening skills. The counseling department would like to thank Patrick and The Actors from the London Stage for visiting John Carroll University and taking time out of their busy schedules to work with JCU students.
