From the Office of Residence Life

As has been indicated in previous communications, the COVID-19 situation is fluid and just today the World Health Organization has declared a pandemic. We need to take additional steps to increase social distancing to reduce the spread of the Coronavirus. Based on the information we have at this time, John Carroll University is modifying its expectations for residential students.

Residential students are now required to leave the residence halls to return to their permanent address by Saturday, March 14, 2020 at 2:00pm. The residence halls will be inaccessible until at least April 13, 2020. Exceptions to this requirement will be made for the following students:

  • Student Athletes involved in Spring sports
  • Students who are student teaching or in university-recognized internships that are continuing through April 13
  • Student employees whose work has been deemed essential by their department and approved by their supervisor
  • International students or other students who are unable to travel due to distance
  • Those who are unable to return to their permanent address for personal reasons, including but not limited to: food insecurity, housing insecurity, limited access to wifi or computer equipment needed to participate in online academic work

We are taking these actions in an abundance of caution and care for our community. This requirement allows for greater social distancing as recommended by public health agencies while ensuring those students who are not able to return to their permanent address are cared for and supported.

If you are a student requesting an exception, you must complete this form by 8:30am on Friday, March 13, 2020. If there are questions about your request, you will be contacted by the Office of Residence Life via email.

The University will remain open during the period of online instruction. Until Saturday, March 14, 2020 at 2:00pm, Schott Dining Hall, the Inn Between, and Einstein Brothers Bagels will continue normal operating hours. As of 2:00pm on Saturday, March 14, 2020, the following dining options will be available:

  • Schott Dining Hall (7-days a week)
    • Breakfast: 7:30am-10:00am
    • Lunch: 12:00pm-2:00pm
    • Dinner: 5:00pm-7:30pm
  • Einstein Brothers Bagels (Monday-Friday)
    • 8:00am-1:00pm

Additional information, including any potential changes, about University and campus services will be sent in further University communications.
