Meet the students carrying out the Jesuit tradition, beyond the classroom.

Read what they have to say about how being a Blue Streak prepared them for career success.

Linking learning to life: an educational experience that prepares you for complexity, change, and social responsibility.

The Integrative Core Curriculum at John Carroll prepares you to make a difference in the workplace and in society. With its focus on high-level transferable skills — including communication, evidence-based reasoning, and problem solving — as well as a liberal arts approach rooted in Jesuit principles of social justice, ethics, philosophy and religious studies, the Integrative Core challenges you to think critically and ethically, communicate skillfully, and analyze strategically. That’s the difference the John Carroll academic experience delivers.

Whether through the study of communication, history, social sciences, literature, language, religion, or art ... from studying Ancient Rome to Shanghai and Mexico City, the humanities will immerse you in other worlds and challenge you to change your own. And, you’ll be encouraged to engage outside of the classroom to continue that confident exploration of the world around us. You might find yourself:

  • Honing your writing, interviewing, and editing skills as part of The Carroll News
  • Engaging in work to promote social justice
  • Serving as a research assistant to pursue a passion and partner with faculty who push you to produce a high-quality product
  • Participating in a service-learning project that creates an opportunity for growth and understanding
  • Developing your on-camera presence or learning the inner workings of production in our television studio
  • Finding your voice with our Speech and Debate team
  • Teaching philosophy to middle schoolers
  • Becoming comfortable behind the microphone at WJCU 88/7 FM or in one of our podcast studios

Our location 10 miles from downtown Cleveland means that you’ll have year-round access to real-world experience. Our partnerships throughout Northeast Ohio, along with the network of 43,000 John Carroll alumni who own and operate businesses here and across the country, result in innovative experiences for our students.

You’ll have the opportunity to intern at law, healthcare, government, and environmental firms, as well as research laboratories, and nonprofits including organizations such as Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, NASA Glenn Research Center, the Cleveland Botanical Garden, and Sherwin-Williams.

The city is home to three major hospital systems, including the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic. Our special partnership with the Clinic allows more than 20 of our students to intern each year in areas such as medical and scientific research, autism care, healthcare information technology, and more.
