The Wolfpack Battalion encompasses cadets from the following schools:

John Carroll University established the Military Science Department, also known as the Army ROTC Battalion, on April 3rd, 1950. The first Cadet was sworn in (commissioned) as a Second Lieutenant in June 1951 and we continue to commission Officers for the U.S. Army. This program has produced thousands of exceptional leaders of character for service to our nation.

The Army ROTC Battalion in Cleveland is also known as the Wolfpack Detachment. John Carroll University hosts the program, but Cadets come from schools throughout the Cleveland metropolitan area (as noted above). The Military Science courses are taught at John Carroll University, Cleveland State University, and Case Western University.

The Wolfpack Detachment takes great pride in the quality of leaders it develops. The program assists each Cadet in finding their most effective leadership style through assigned leadership positions and challenging experiences. We are extremely effective in doing this. Our graduates place above the national average in Army service component and branch choices. We also have several alumni that attained the Officer rank of General as well as corporate executive positions within the private sector.

The strength of a wolf in nature resides in the pack surrounding it, and so does the strength of the Cadets in the Wolfpack Battalion. The Wolfpack is most effective when working as a team, and the team makes every individual better. The same approach applies within this detachment as we invest together in the success of each other academically, physically, and mentally.

Our mission statement says it best, “The Wolfpack Battalion educates and trains Cadets to be adaptive, problem solving, and innovative leaders of character, able to thrive in adversity, with the professional competencies to commission as an Officer for service to our Nation.”

Whether one stays in the military or not, the Wolfpack builds leaders of character who serve the common defense and our nation.
