Dr. Ralph A. Saporito is an Associate Professor of Biology at John Carroll University. He teaches courses in biodiversity, tropical biology, and human anatomy and physiology, and serves as the Graduate Program Director in Biology. He is also a chemical ecologist with more than 15 years of experience studying brightly colored poison frogs in tropical rainforests. His research involves field-based studies in Central and South America, as well as experimental work in his research laboratory at John Carroll. He has an active research program that includes both undergraduate and graduate students, and he has served as the major thesis advisor for more than 15 graduate students. He has published more than 60 peer-reviewed research articles on the chemistry, ecology, evolution, behavior, and natural history of poison frogs. He regularly presents his research findings at scientific conferences, and his published work is highly collaborative and involves numerous students.
