The University has engaged its outsourced housekeeping contractor, ABM Industry Group, to provide Enhanced Cleaning Services during the COVID-19 pandemic. Enhanced cleaning services will be performed by trained staff under the supervision of certified managers.

The program includes initial cleaning and disinfection of all classrooms, labs, meeting rooms, residence halls, athletic and recreation areas, and commons areas prior to the opening of campus. It also includes on-going enhanced cleaning and disinfection of these areas supplemented with touch point cleaning of high touch surfaces (door handles, stair rails, elevator buttons, etc) throughout the day. Certified response teams will be trained to secure, clean, and disinfect areas should a faculty, staff, or student be diagnosed with COVID-19.

Cleaning and disinfection frequencies will meet, or exceed, those required by CDC, state officials or the authority having jurisdiction. Cleaning and disinfection products used are EPA-registered disinfectants that have qualified for use against SARS-CoV-2 pathogens.

All areas will be supplemented with housekeeping porter service to continually walk areas and perform touch point cleaning with a certified disinfectant.

Hand sanitizing stations have been added to all areas of campus including entrances and high traffic areas, restrooms, computer labs, residence halls and locker rooms. Additionally, disinfectant wipes will be provided in all classrooms, open study areas, meeting rooms and computer labs for users to disinfect horizontal surfaces and shared equipment.

Plans for COVID-19 HVAC (heating, cooling and ventilation) improvements include:

  • Promote opening windows, especially in residence rooms. This also includes in office and classrooms with operable windows.
  • Increase frequency of filter changes.

Where possible in academic and administrative  buildings, we will also increase air exchange rates, maximize building make-up air and purge air before daily start times through the building automation control systems. In these large building systems, we will also change out filters to higher filtration levels (MERV13 – 15).
