November 13 JCU Emergency Medical Services Training Simulation Drill 2:00pm to 3:00pm JCU Emergency Medical Services Training Simulation Drill on November 13th at 2:00 pm! This is a great experience for anyone who wants to become an EMT, nurse, PA, or physician! JCU-EMS, JCU Nursing, and the University Heights Fire Department are collaborating to provide a training event for EMS responders to improve and review their skills and give students a glimpse into what it is like to respond to a medical emergency. Responders will be dispatched to a simulated medical or trauma call outside of Dolan Science Center and transport the "patient" in a real University Heights Fire Department ambulance to the "Emergency Room" in the JCU Nursing simulation lab. There, JCU EMTs, nursing students, and pre-health students can work together to evaluate and stabilize the patient as they would in a real emergency room; observers are welcome to sign up as well! This is a great opportunity for students interested in emergency medicine or who want to pursue a healthcare career. Sign up below to work alongside responders and other students in the lab or observe the training session. Spaces are limited! We would like to have seniors sign up to be "physicians" and other students sign up to be observers where you can watch the team save the patient! We plan on running this event again in the future so as many students as possible can get this experience! Questions? November 15 PreDOC Session Virtually 6:00pm to 10:00pm Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine (OU-HCOM) will be hosting their November PreDOC session virtually on November 15th at 6pm EST. We will send the link to join the week of the event to those who register. Typically our November session involves service, as many of us prepare to give thanks, celebrate holidays, and reflect on a year passed. For this session, PreDOC participants will hear about service opportunities available to HCOM students via our Heritage Community Clinic, HCOM Mobile Clinics, and more. You will notice that the registration form also asks if you are interested in being assigned a medical student mentor. This mentor can help guide premedical students through the medical school application process, give advice on preparing for the MCAT, and more. Medical student mentors can be an excellent resource for your students! We hope to see strong interest in this mentorship opportunity. Please note that EAP students are not eligible for this opportunity, as they have already been assigned an EAP alumni mentor.
