Beth E. Mooney, chairman and chief executive officer of KeyCorp, will deliver the 2016 Commencement address at John Carroll University on Sunday, May 22, at 11 a.m. Approximately 660 undergraduate and 200 graduate degrees will be awarded, and Ms. Mooney will receive an honorary doctorate from the University. “Beth Mooney is an extraordinary business and civic leader, and we are grateful that she will join us for Commencement this year – which marks our 130th anniversary – to share what is certain to be an inspiring message for our graduates,” said John Carroll University President Rev. Robert L. Niehoff, S.J. “Her leadership has had a powerful impact, not only in Ohio, but around the world.” Mooney has been chairman and chief executive officer of KeyCorp since May 1, 2011. In 2010, she was named president and became a member of KeyCorp’s board of directors. She joined Key in 2006, and has more than 30 years of experience in retail banking, commercial lending, and real estate financing. Mooney is a graduate of the University of Texas, and earned her MBA at Southern Methodist University, where she was selected as a 2007-2008 Distinguished Alumna of the Cox School of Business. Fortune Magazine recently named her one of the Top 50 “Most Powerful Women in Business.” In 2015, Mooney was named the #1 Most Powerful Woman in Banking for the third year in a row by American Banker. In 2016, Mooney was the recipient of the 'Corporate Responsibility Award' from the Foreign Policy Association for Key's civic leadership and community outreach. She is a member of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland’s board of directors, and serves as chairman of the Greater Cleveland Partnership (GCP), one of the largest chambers of commerce in the nation. Mooney is also a trustee and treasurer of the board of the Musical Arts Association (The Cleveland Orchestra), and a trustee of the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.
