Photography: Alex Slitz John Carroll University defensive lineman David Porter '16 was recently named to the 2015 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® for his “good work,” dedication and commitment to serving the community. Today, Porter, John Carroll University Athletics and special guests from the community surprised Porter with a celebration of this prestigious honor during a regularly scheduled practice.

Head Coach Tom Arth, who nominated David for the award  joined local Allstate agency owner Ricardo Prude to recognize Porter for his selection to the 2015 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® and surprise him with his trophy. Porter is one of only 22 college football players from across the country to be named to the 2015 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team®, and he is the first John Carroll Blue Streak to be named to the team in the award’s 24-year history. Porter, who is from Lorain, Ohio, participated in the Jesuit Day of Service for three years, helping local neighborhood residents build a community garden. Much of his service has been dedicated to tutoring and mentoring children through John Carroll partnerships with Roxboro Middle School, Boys and Girls Club, and the Fatima Aftercare Program. As a two-time All-Conference, All-Ohio and All-Region selection, it’s apparent that Porter’s dedication translates on and off the field. Porter will be invited to join fellow 2015 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® members in New Orleans to participate in a community project before the 2016 Allstate® Sugar Bowl® in January. The Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® will also be honored during halftime at the 2016 Allstate® Sugar Bowl® on ESPN.
