John Carroll University today announced that Carolyn Noll Sorg, a 16-year veteran of higher education leadership, has been named Vice President for Enrollment Management, effective May 15, 2023. A Cleveland native, Noll Sorg currently serves as Director of Recruitment and Enrollment Success Management at College Board.
“Carolyn brings a unique blend of intelligence, passion, collaboration, and industry perspective to this important role at a pivotal time for our institution,” said Alan R. Miciak, President of John Carroll University. “Her strategic approach to enrollment leadership will be an asset to John Carroll as we build the Inspired Futures of our students.”
Noll Sorg’s appointment follows recent news at John Carroll University including the debut of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a renewed institutional commitment to building Inspired Futures for students through significant investments in academic programs, campus life, and modern infrastructure.
Prior to her role at College Board, Noll Sorg served as Director of Admission and a deputy chief enrollment officer at Ursuline College from 2013-17. In her time at Ursuline, Noll Sorg galvanized a successful team that doubled undergraduate applications, created operational efficiencies, redeployed the Ursuline brand for more engaging prospective student communication, and ultimately grew the first-year student headcount by 14% while exceeding revenue targets and increasing underrepresented minority student enrollment by 4.5%. She has also served in admissions roles at the University of Akron and Baldwin Wallace.
“I’ve always called Greater Cleveland home, which means members of the JCU community have been part of my larger network since childhood,” said Noll Sorg. “I’ve always admired their integrity and talent. It is an honor to join this community myself, and shape the next generation of purpose-driven John Carroll leaders.”
She continued, “I am committed to leading a strategic enrollment management planning process that hears all voices and designs an evidence-based, coordinated plan that will advance John Carroll’s mission through the coming years.”
Noll Sorg has been a leading voice on College Board’s Recruitment and Enrollment Solutions team, where she consults with more than 1,500 colleges and universities who use College Board Search to build their classes. College Board Search connects students who take the SAT, PSAT/NMSQT, and AP exams with higher education opportunities. Two in three high school students in the United States opt in to be part of this dataset.
As an expert in using principles of geodemography to build new markets, Noll Sorg has helped universities, particularly those in the Midwest, find new groups of students in other regions who share the traits and college choice behavior of their known students. She was also a member of the team conceptualizing aspects of an industry-leading suite of products and College Board Search features, including the innovative new Connections, which is forthcoming in fall 2023.
Noll Sorg graduated Summa Cum Laude from Baldwin Wallace University in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts in English. She holds a Master of Arts in Higher & Postsecondary Education from Columbia University and is currently pursuing a Master of Fine Arts in Experience Design from Miami University.
Carolyn and her husband, Brendan, have two children: Jackson (6) and Anneliese (3).
