Ribbon? Check. Oversized scissors? Check. A fully renovated student hub on campus? Check! 

More than 200 community members gathered at the beginning of the Fall 2023 semester to usher in a new era for the D.J. Lombardo Student Center, which received a full-scale renovation over the summer adding more than 3,000 square feet of usable space.

President Al Miciak and Student Government President Jacob Kozlowski acknowledged the significance of the moment before University Chaplain Fr. Bernie McAniff, S.J. blessed the space.

“The D.J. Lombardo Student Center is now a destination where student life, campus excitement, music, laughter, and energy fill the air,” said Miciak. “I can only imagine how many thousands of alumni and community members have stepped foot in this building over the last five decades. I have no doubt that each of them will be blown away the next time they are on campus."

Miciak offered a special thank you to John and Mary Jo Boler and their family who supported the original construction of the building and named it after Mary Jo’s father, D.J. Lombardo. 

The new-look D.J. Lombardo Student Center includes The Cubby, a Starbucks coffee shop that serves a variety of drinks and snacks, a brand-new student bookstore operated by Follett, an Interfaith Lounge, and ample space for student socialization and programming.

The re-opening of the D.J. Lombardo Student Center is one of many milestones in the Building Inspired Futures vision for campus that includes two new Nursing labs, the Mastrantoni Family Student Success Center, renovations to the Schott Dining Hall, Corbo Fitness Center, and Pacelli and Dolan Halls, and the groundbreaking for the Athletic, Wellness, and Event Center scheduled to open in Winter 2025. 

Hasenstab Architects and The Krill Company partnered in the design and construction of the D.J. Lombardo Student Center.
