Dr. Terry Mills at the White House in Washington, D.C. Dr. Terry Mills, Assistant Provost for Diversity and Inclusion and Chief Diversity Officer, accepted an invitation to visit the White House this week to highlight John Carroll's plans to implement the First in the World (FITW) grant program. The visit presented the opportunity for Dr. Mills and other FITW Project Directors to share their FITW work, which promotes greater innovation in addressing affordability and access in higher education. In Fall 2015, The U.S. Department of Education awarded John Carroll University a “First in the World” (FITW) program grant, totaling nearly $1.3 million. John Carroll is the only university in Ohio to receive the funding. “First in the World” grants are designed to develop strategies with the goal of improving academic outcomes and retention rates for students at colleges and universities.
