Monday, May 6, 2013 At the 67th Annual Eastern Colleges Science Conference (ECSC) held at Providence College in Rhode Island on April 20, 2013, Jeffrey Dunn received an Award of Excellence for the Outstanding Research Paper in Psychology. For judging purposes of the manuscript, student and institutional names were deleted (“blind review”) so that evaluators would not be prejudiced by the gender of the author or by the institution in which the research was conducted. Jeffrey also received an Award of Excellence for the Outstanding Poster Presentation in Psychology. Sarah Slagle and Kayla Meckley received an Award of Excellence for the Outstanding Poster Presentation in Biopsychology/Neuroscience. The manuscript and posters were a culmination of an independent research project, which is a component of the neuroscience concentration at John Carroll University. Faculty judges from various universities and research institutions in the Eastern section of the country evaluated all research. There were more than 300 participants from approximately 20 colleges or universities at the conference. For 26 consecutive years, neuroscience students of Helen Murphy, Ph.D., (Psychology) and Cyrilla Wideman, Ph.D., (Biology) have received First Place/Excellence Awards for research in biology, chemistry and/or psychology at the ECSC. The neuroscience interdisciplinary concentration involves students who major in biology, chemistry, or psychology.
