A team of accountancy students in John Carroll University’s Boler School of Business recently competed in the 2012 Deloitte FanTAXtic Regional Competition where it earned second place and was honored with a regional honorable mention award. Approximately 70 schools were invited to participate in nine regional competitions this year. Each school is eligible to enter up to two teams of five students each  (two members of each team must be sophomores). JCU had two teams, A and B. The A team received the honorable mention. By finishing second in the region, each member of Team A receives $200 and the University receives $2,000 for scholarship awards which will be split among all 10 participants. This is the third consecutive year that a JCU team has received at least an honorable mention award in a Deloitte tax competition. The 2011 team place third in the nation. The Deloitte FanTAXtic competition, sponsored annually by Deloitte Tax LLP, national tax recruiting and the Deloitte Foundation, is an educational program for students from some of the nation's top accounting and tax programs to gain real-world experience through participation in a unique interscholastic competition. The competition required student teams to engage in a reality-based exercise, make a presentation in Deloitte’s telesuites, and network with tax professionals. Congratulations to all the JCU team members: Team A – seniors Dan Imfeld, Dominic Carlini and Rich Mazzola; sophomores TJ Killeen and Patrick Dengler; and Team B – seniors Pat Fallon, Lauren Vine and Bozo Lemajic; sophomores Rob Morel and Mike DiNunzio; and Jerry Weinstein, Ph.D. (faculty advisor). The team was also assisted by one of the Boler School’s Executive-in-Residence in Accountancy, George Goodrich, and its Business Communications professor, Ann Lee, Ph.D.
