Two John Carroll grads have received prestigious Fulbright scholarships to advance their educational pursuits. Jack Morton, a 2011 physical education and exercise science major, was awarded a Fulbright to teach English at Ukrainian universities. Morton studied abroad in Russia and England as an undergraduate. In 2010, he earned the Congressional Award Gold Medal, the highest honor given by the U.S. Congress to young people who commit to personal development goals, volunteerism, exploration, and physical fitness. A native of Moscow, Pennsylvania, Morton is currently a graduate student at Wilkes University, where his coursework centers on teaching English as a second language. Robert Clines, a 2007 history major, has received a Fulbright Fellowship to complete research on his doctoral dissertation at Syracuse University. He will be researching Jesuit missions to the Ottoman Empire, 1550-1650 at the Jesuit archive in Rome. Clines, a native of Newbury, Ohio, has earned a Master of Arts in history from Miami University and a Master of Philosophy from Syracuse. While an undergraduate, he studied abroad through the JCU at Vatican City Program. The Fulbright Program, established in 1946, is the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. State Department, and is designed to “increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries.”
