These events are free and open to the public. WHAT: The Walter & Mary Tuohy Chair, established at John Carroll University in 1966, was one of the first ecumenical chairs to be established at an American university. It is named for the late Walter J. Tuohy, who was chief executive officer of the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway, and his wife, Mary. Paul L. Heck will examine the ways in which Muslims and Christians can be together in today’s world, not despite but through their respective religious traditions in a series of lectures. Six lectures will take place: March 13, 2007- “Scripture: Does the Qur'an Belong in the Bible?” March 20, 2007- “Skepticism: How Many "Good Books" Can We Have?” March 27, 2007- “Spirituality: Do We Pray to the Same God?” April 3, 2007- “Jihad: Is it Christian Too?” April 10, 2007- “Power: Is Islam More or Less Democratic Than Christianity?” April 17, 2007- “Justice: God's Rights and Human Rights” WHERE: Donahue Auditorium, Dolan Center for Science and Technology John Carroll University 20700 North Park Boulevard University Heights, Ohio 44118 Who: Paul L. Heck is a scholar of Islamic studies with an interest in the implications of religious pluralism in today’s world. He graduated from prestigious schools including Harvard University (B.A.), Oxford University (M.A), and the University of Chicago (Ph.D.). Before his appointment in Georgetown University’s Theology Department, he was a member of Princeton University’s Society of Fellows in the Liberal Arts (2001-2004). Dr. Heck has written several publications, which focus on knowledge and its repercussions for society.
