[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFdq3jBhmvs[/youtube] John Carroll University students Tyler Flynn ’14 and Nicole Shellenbarger ’15 have been awarded scholarships to study in Ireland by the Mayo Society of Greater Cleveland. The Mayo Society sponsors JCU students each year at the National University of Ireland (NUI), Galway. The scholarships are open to students of all majors, and are awarded on a competitive basis. Flynn and Shellenbarger will study at NUI Galway during the spring 2014 semester. Flynn is a senior English literature major and history minor. He works as a consultant in JCU’s Writing Center, and plans to pursue a Ph.D. in English literature. Shellenbarger is a junior biology major, and participates in the University’s Arrupe Scholars Program. She has served through immersion trips to Immokalee, Florida, and Joplin, Missouri. “The John Carroll University community is deeply grateful for the Mayo Society of Greater Cleveland’s generosity and commitment to cultural exchange,” said Jeanne Colleran, Ph.D., dean of the University’s College of Arts and Sciences. “The society’s vision and support are providing life-changing opportunities for our students to lead and serve by engaging the world around them and around the globe.” JCU also hosts exchange students from NUI Galway. This semester, Nicholas Hogan, a biochemistry and microbiology student, and Lucy Moran, a biochemistry and chemistry student, are attending JCU.
