John Carroll University students Michael Ciancibello ’14 and Chrispus Munywoki ’14 have been selected for healthcare information technology internships this semester at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. Ciancibello is a computer science major and philosophy minor from Mayfield Heights, Ohio. Munywoki is a computer science and economics double major from Kitui, Kenya. John Carroll graduates Roseann Spitznagel ’95 and Jim Wetzel ’01—who work at the Clinic—helped start the healthcare IT internship program for JCU students last spring. The program’s first intern was Kathryn Ek ’12, who graduated from JCU last May. She now works as an IT analyst with Dwellworks in Cleveland. The internship program is part of the healthcare information technology track in JCU’s Department of Mathematics and Computer Science. The track helps students gain the specialized knowledge and skills needed to meet the unique IT needs of the fast-growing healthcare industry. “There is strong demand in Northeast Ohio for healthcare IT professionals, and we are excited to collaborate with the Cleveland Clinic Foundation to prepare young professionals to succeed in the field,” said Jeanne M. They gain valuable professional experience in autism research, biomedical research, communications and marketing, educational outreach, healthcare information technology, language translation, and many other fields.
