Devin Limerick is moving toward his goals both on and off the field. The Senior wideout has always had a passion for sports, and now he’s pivoting that passion into his future career as a physical therapist.

Devin may be headed to the Ivy League after he graduates from John Carroll in the spring. He’s already been accepted into Columbia University’s doctorate program for physical therapy, but says he plans on exploring all his options before taking the next step toward his future.

Limerick’s road to success was not always a straight path. He dealt with twists and turns along the way. During his freshman season as a running back he suffered an injury to his ankle, straining several ligaments. Ahead of last season Devin transitioned to playing wide receiver which also was not in his playbook. He says his passion for football kept him going while dealing with adversity.

“When you’re a division III athlete, you’re truly playing for the love of the game” Devin explains “You know the NFL probably won’t be knocking on your door, you’re putting in the work for your teammates and your love for the sport.”

John Carroll football began their 2021 season at home against Washington and Jefferson College on September 4.

Devin’s injury also led him back to his aspirations in pursuing a career in physical therapy, something he’s always wanted to do, following in the footsteps of his older brother. During downtime due to the pandemic, Limerick co-founded the John Carroll Physical Therapy Club in September of 2020. Managing club activities is helping Limerick expand his leadership skills.

Being a leader on the field, has transferred into building my leadership skills in other areas, including the classroom and running the physical therapy club.

Aside from his accomplishments off the field, Devin has been a standout for the Blue Streaks on the gridiron. Limerick earned Special Teams Player of the Week honors earlier this season when he returned a kickoff 86-yards for a game tying touchdown. His big play was credited with sparking the team to victory against Marietta. Limerick is also coming off his best game of the season, last week against Wilmington he caught 6 balls for 80-yards and touchdown.

Devin says he excited about his future and says his time at John Carroll University has helped him hone his skills on the field, in the classroom and in the community.

“I came to JCU to play football” says Limerick “But I was surprised by the sense of community here. I have so many friends outside of football – I’m constantly building myself as a person, not just a player.”
