Ovidiu Breahna ’16 has been named the winner of the 2015 Student Ambassador of the Year Award for the campaign, Study in Spain (SiS), which is overseen by the Embassy of Spain-Trade Commission. The award presentation was hosted by the Ambassador of Spain in the United States in Washington, D.C., in January. Government representatives and educational organizations attended the ceremony. The award also includes a 7-day trip to Spain. The award is given to a student ambassador who has accumulated the most SiS points. Students receive points based on various activities that promote the Spanish language. Breahna acquired his points by leading JCU’s Spanish club, La Hora del Café; promoting the Study in Spain Facebook page; and developing a connection between JCU and a residence hall in Madrid. “I feel very honored to have received this award and am very happy to have the chance to promote the amazing opportunities that Spain has to offer,” Breahna said. “Studying the Spanish language has been one of the best decisions that I have made. Knowing another language not only improves communication but also allows for an individual to connect to someone on a more personal level.” Ovidiu is a Spanish and biology double major from Brooklyn, Ohio. He is the president of Honors Student Association (HSA) and La Hora del Café. The Study in Spain Program is aimed at promoting Spanish international education in the United States, Spanish language courses, study abroad programs, and educational opportunities in Spain for international students.
