Biography
After completion of the Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry at Michigan State University, Dr. Waner spent a year teaching at Spring Hill College before returning to JCU in August 1999. His research interests have focused primarily on biophysical studies of the biotin binding proteins avidin and streptavidin. He has also published research in physical organic chemistry and chemistry education. Another of his interests is K-12 science education, which has involved outreach programs for students, professional development programs for teachers and course development aimed at pre- and in-service teachers. Dr. Waner teaches courses in General and Physical Chemistry, as well as courses for elementary, middle, and high school teachers. Dr. Waner has also been active in faculty governance and professional organizations serving in leadership positions of JCU Faculty Council and the Cleveland section of the American Chemical Society.
