Biography

Expertise: Political Thought; Political Theory

Dr. Mindy Peden graduated from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst with a B.A. in Political Science. She received her M.A. and later her Ph.D. in Political Science from Cornell University. She is currently an Associate Professor of Political Science at John Carroll University. In the summer of 2016, Dr. Peden was elected department chair.

Dr. Peden teaches courses such as Political Thought, Political Theory, and Marxist Theory. She has many publications, including “Redefining Unionism: The Role of the Diaspora?” (2016), written in collaboration with Tim White and Wendy Wiedenhoft-Murphy, as well as “Situating Race and Nation in the U.S. Context: Methodology, Interdisciplinarity, and the Unresolved Role of Comparative Inquiry” (2009). She has three forthcoming publications due out in 2018. Dr. Peden has also presented her research at numerous conferences, including The State of (In)Equality: Justice Under Siege, hosted in Toronto, Canada in 2017; and the American Political Science Association Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C. in 2014.

Dr. Peden has also been awarded several grants towards the Political Science Department at John Carroll University. These grants include Issues in Social Justice Course Development Grant (2016), Engaging the Global Community Course Development Grant (2015), Diversity Course Development Grant (2009), and Summer Research Grant (2005). When she is not teaching, Dr. Peden enjoys live music. She has played the drums in a band and was also a founding member of Larchmere Porch Fest, an exciting annual outdoor concert in Cleveland, Ohio.
