Expertise:  Science education, pedagogy, aquatic ecology

Research and Teaching Interests:  I teach the introductory biology laboratory courses here at John Carroll. These courses emphasize authentic research experiences in collaboration with other labs in the biology department, such as genetic analysis of cyanobacteria in collaboration with Dr. Johansen, and the antimicrobial properties of alkaloids from poison frogs in collaboration with Dr. Saporito. These labs are designed to provide applicable foundations in research design and the use of analytical tools while scaffolding independence in the science laboratory and college.
