Naveed Piracha, PhD Profile Picture

Biography

Professor Piracha received his Ph.D. from Quaid-I-Azam University (QAU), Islamabad, Pakistan in 1998 where he worked on the spectroscopy of noble gases. He has worked as a scientific officer at the Optics Laboratories in Islamabad. He was a Research Scientist at the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology, Tsukuba, Japan. Here he investigated the molecular structure of some aniline clusters.

He joined the faculty of John Carroll University in August 2002 and setup his lab to work in the field of atomic spectroscopy. He uses tunable lasers to measure spectroscopic parameters of atoms and molecules.  Dr. Piracha has an active research collaboration with the Physics Department of QAU as well as with the National Center of Physics, Islamabad. His teaching interests are laser spectroscopy, analogue and digital electronics, modern physics; and general physics for both physics and non-physics majors. He also teaches a core class to non-science majors on ‘How Things Work.'
