Professor of Italian

Biography

Dr. Santa Casciani holds an A.A.S. in Marketing; a B.A. in Italian and English, an M.A. and a Ph.D. in Italian.

She is Professor of Italian and is the founding director of the Bishop Anthony M. Pilla Program in Italian American Studies, the founding director of the JCU in Rome program (previously JCU at Vatican City), and the founding director of the Bishop Pilla Summer Institute and the Bishop Pilla Spring Break.

She has published articles on Michelangelo and Dante, on Italian and Italian American literature, and pedagogy. Her publications include The Fiore and Detto d’Amore: A Late 13th Century Italian Translation of the Roman de la Rose, and Dante and the Franciscans. She is currently completing a collection of essays titled, A Companion to Late Medieval and Early Modern Siena.

Professor Casciani has received numerous grants from institutions such as the American Philosophical Society, and was a fellow at The Gladys Krieble Delmas Foundation/American Council of Learned Societies.
