Change to Commuter Status
Students may request to change their status from residential to commuter for the 2025-2026 academic year. In order to have their request considered, students must be in compliance with the University’s residency requirement which states:
Resident students who entered JCU in the fall semester of 2022 and spring semester of 2023 are required to live in university-sponsored housing during their first three years. Resident students who entered JCU in the fall semester of 2023 or later are required to live in university-sponsored housing for their first four years. Students are able to declare themselves commuters at time of enrollment or may request a change prior to the next academic year’s housing selection processes. Commuting is defined as living exclusively in the permanent and primary residence of a parent or legal guardian, which must be located within 35 miles of the John Carroll University campus.
In order to request a change to commuter status for the 2025-2026 academic year, students must complete the following:
Both the Request to Change to Commuter Status Form and Commuter Verification Form must be received by the Office of Residence Life by 5:00pm on Monday, January 20, 2025. AFTER THIS DATE, STUDENTS WILL NOT BE ABLE TO REQUEST A CHANGE TO THEIR STATUS FOR THE 2025-2026 ACADEMIC YEAR AND WILL BE HELD TO THE RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT AS OUTLINED.
Full and completed requests received by the deadline will be reviewed and students will be notified of their status and/or approval by Friday, January 31, 2025.
Housing Accommodations through Student Accessibility Services
Students who need to review their current housing accommodations and/or seek additional accommodations for the 2024-2025 academic year, should be in contact with Student Accessibility Services in order to meet the priority deadline of 5pm Monday January 20, 2025.
Students who may be seeking new housing accommodations for the 2025-2026 academic year, please begin the process with Student Accessibility Services in advance of the January 20, 2025 priority deadline. Please review Prospective SAS Student information for more details.
