History Major

History students at John Carroll develop contextually responsible and critical interpretations of the past that help us better understand the course of human experience and help to shape our future.

You’ll discover courses that cross national boundaries or span time periods, from the ancient world to the modern era. You may take a course on the history of the Jesuits, human rights, the history of American capitalism, modern China, or slavery and abolition, just to name a few. We are constantly developing new courses as our scholarship, and world, take new directions.

All history students earn a Bachelor of Arts in History. The major requirements are easy to manage, allowing you to graduate in four years and to double major or add one or more minors, if you so choose. A history major pairs nicely with many other majors, such as economics, education, English, philosophy, political science, sociology, and theology and religious studies.
