The Rev. Howard J. Kerner, S.J., Scholarship Fund was established through the generosity of alumni, friends, and colleagues of Rev. Kerner. It honors the memory of a longtime member of the history department faculty, who served the department from 1948 until 1985. Up to two $4,200.00 Kerner Scholarships are available each year and will be awarded in the recipients’ senior year.

  • The awards are to be presented to second semester junior history majors who will be attending the University on a full-time basis (enrolled for at least 12 credit hours of academic credit per semester) the following year.
  • Eligible applicants should have an overall GPA of at least 3.5, with no less than a 3.5 in history, and will enroll in at least one upper-division (300-400 level) history course in each semester of the senior year.
  • Existing financial aid may be taken into consideration when designating awardees.

Applicants must submit an official application by April 1, 2021.

On or about April 15, 2021, the department chair will announce the Kerner Scholars.

Applications are available from the secretary of the History Department — or, download an application here: Rev. Howard J. Kerner Scholarship Application.
