At the 73rd Annual Eastern Colleges Science Conference (ECSC) held at Manhattan College in the Bronx, New York on April 6, 2019, four Interdisciplinary Neuroscience Concentration students received award plaques for their research project manuscripts.  Kate Fike received an Award of Excellence for a Research Paper in Health Science, Isabella Lane received an Award of Excellence for a Research Paper in Experimental Psychology, Viktoriya Partyka received an Award of Excellence for a Research Paper in Physiology, and William Sweeney received an Award of Excellence for a Research Paper in Clinical/Counseling Psychology. For judging purposes of the manuscripts, student and institutional names were deleted (“blind review”) so that evaluators would not be prejudiced by the gender of the author or by the institution in which the research was conducted. In addition to the manuscript awards, Allison Mancuso received an Award of Excellence for a Poster Presentation in Cell and Molecular Biology and Kate Fike received an Award of Excellence for a Poster Presentation in Health Science.   The manuscripts and posters were a culmination of an independent research project, which is a component of the Interdisciplinary Neuroscience Concentration at John Carroll University.  Faculty judges from various universities and research institutions in the Eastern section of the country evaluated all research. There were about four hundred participants at the conference. ECSC is the oldest undergraduate research conference in the United States.  For 32 consecutive years, neuroscience students of Drs. Murphy and Wideman have received Excellence/Outstanding Awards for research in Biology, Chemistry and/or Psychology at the ECSC.  The Interdisciplinary Neuroscience Concentration at JCU involves students who major in Biology, Chemistry, or Psychology.
