WHO: John Carroll students, faculty, staff and alumni will join residents of Cleveland’s Hough Neighborhood to build community gardens. Several John Carroll athletic groups plan to attend, including members of the John Carroll football team. WHAT: “Cultivating Community Day” Volunteers will create raised bed gardens, spread mulch at playgrounds, paint porches and complete a spring clean up in the Hough Neighborhood. The day is part of John Carroll University Professor Dr. Peggy Finucane’s “Cultivating Community” class. The class examines historical, social, political and economic complexities of an urban Cleveland neighborhood. The Cultivating Community class partners with St. Thomas Aquinas Elementary School and the East 95th Street Homeowners Association in an effort to bring people of different backgrounds together to create a sense of community.
