In 23 of the past 24 years, JCU neuroscience students have received First Place Awards at the Eastern Colleges Science Conference (ECSC)—this year was no exception. In early April, Heidi Benson ’11, received the First Place Award for her research paper in physiology. The manuscript was the culmination of an independent research project, which is a component of the Neuroscience Concentration at JCU. Benson was one of eleven students that submitted manuscripts for judging. The goal of the conference is to stimulate interest in undergraduate research in the sciences and related fields and to provide a lively forum for the presentation of research papers. This year's conference, held at Sacred Heart University, in Fairfield, Connecticut, boasted 291 registrants representing 21 undergraduate colleges and universities.
