University Heights, OH –Reverend Robert L. Niehoff, S.J., president of John Carroll University, today announced the promotion of Dr. Jonathan Smith and Richard Mausser to key University positions. Dr. Jonathan Smith has been promoted to vice president and executive assistant to the president and Richard Mausser has agreed to serve as vice president for finance and treasurer of the Corporation. Dr. Jonathan Smith, formerly executive assistant to the president, will oversee Human Resources and Facilities, in addition to his current responsibilities leading the president’s staff. Dr. Smith is also integral in the development and implementation of John Carroll’s institutional goals and campus wide strategic planning. Dr. Smith has been a member of the John Carroll University faculty for over 20 years and joined the President’s Office as executive assistant in June, 2007. He is professor of Management and chaired the Management, Marketing and Logistics Department. His teaching and research interests are in leadership, organizational change and business ethics. He has worked with both for-profit and not-for-profit organizations in management development, communications and teamwork. Dr. Smith earned a B.S. from Wofford College, a Masters of Divinity from Emory University, and an M.S. and Ph. D. from the University of Georgia. Since joining John Carroll in 1995, Mausser has held the positions of controller, executive director of finance and, most recently, associate vice president for finance. His current responsibilities will be oversight of all financial areas of the University including the Controllers Office, including Accounting and Accounts Payable, the Bursar, Payroll, and Auxiliary Services, which includes Purchasing. Mausser has served on numerous committees and is currently a member of the Administrative Leadership Team, University Budget Committee and Information Technology Steering Committee. Prior to joining John Carroll University, Mausser held various finance positions at Leaseway Transportation Corp., and was an auditor with Deloitte & Touche LLP. He holds an M.B.A. from John Carroll University and a B.S. in Accounting from Case Western Reserve University and is a certified public accountant.
