Gerald P. Weinstein, Ph.D., CPA, Chair of the John Carroll University Department of Accountancy, has been named the recipient of the 2009 Outstanding Ohio Accounting Educator award. Each year, The Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Accounting Association present the award to an accounting educator who has made extraordinary contributions to the accounting profession and whose teaching skills and techniques merit special recognition. Dr. Weinstein has been a full-time faculty member at John Carroll for 23 years, and serves as chair of the accountancy department. He is active in the community, serving on the board of directors of the Montefiore nursing home in Beachwood since 2006, and as a past board member of the Cleveland Food Co-Op. He also manages John Carroll University student participation in the IRS’ Volunteer Tax Assistance (VITA) program, which provides free tax services for low income, elderly, and non-English speaking taxpayers. Weinstein is a prolific researcher and author, with extensive contributions to professional publications. He is a member of the Journal of Accounting Education Editorial Boardand has also served for 12 years as a reviewer for the Case Research Journal.
