WHAT: This event is part of the 2008-2009 Dr. Shirley S. Seaton Cultural Awareness Series, sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Affairs at John Carroll University. WHO: Kevin Powell is a political activist, author, journalist, and “hip-hop historian.” In celebration of Martin Luther King Day, Powell will reflect on the hip-hop generation, Dr. King’s dream, and the Civil Rights Movement. Powell is the author of seven books, including, Someday We’ll All Be Free: a book of essays on democracy, justice, and race in America. Powell has also written numerous essays, articles and reviews that have appeared in Esquire, Newsweek, The Washington Post, Essence, Rolling Stone, and Vibe.
