Mester’s October 10th Fireside Chat is Open to the Public

The Edward J. and Louise E. Mellen Executive Speaker Series is excited to welcome Dr. Loretta J. Mester, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland, as its fall speaker at John Carroll University.

Dr. Mester will participate in a fireside chat on October 10, 2019 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the LSC Conference Room inside the DJ Lombardo Student Center with a reception to follow. The event is free and open to the public. To register, call 216.397.4459 or visit jcu.edu/mellenseries.

Each semester, the Mellen Executive Speaker Series brings students, faculty, and the broader business community the opportunity to meet and interact with executive officers to learn about the strategic focus of their firms and the challenges they face.

Since becoming the president and chief executive officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland in June 2014, Dr. Mester has participated in the formulation of U.S. monetary policy, and overseen 1,000 employees in Cleveland, Cincinnati, and Pittsburgh who conduct economic research, supervise banking institutions, and provide payment services to commercial banks and the U.S. government.

Prior to her work with the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland, Dr. Mester worked at the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia beginning in 1985 as an economist, becoming senior vice president and director of research in 2000, and executive vice president and director of research in 2010. In her role as executive president and director of research, Dr. Mester was the chief policy advisor, attended meetings of the Federal Open Market Committee, and oversaw the economists and analysts in the Research Department, as well as professionals in the Financial Statistics Department and the Payments Cards Center.

Additionally, Dr. Mester uses her expertise to serve as an adjunct professor of finance at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and is a fellow at the Wharton Financial Institutions Center. She has also taught in the undergraduate finance and M.B.A. programs at Wharton and in the Ph.D. program in finance at New York University.

Dr. Mester joins top business leaders throughout Ohio, including numerous CEOs of Fortune 500 companies, who have been part of the Executive Speaker Series at John Carroll University. She will provide students, faculty and other guests with real world applications of business principles and an opportunity to interact in group settings as well as one-on-one.
