  • Instructional Design/Course Development: Collaborate with the Center for Digital Media team to design and develop engaging course content using emerging technologies.
  • Online Learning Resources: Live, instructor-led or pre-recorded online technology training for independent and/or remote learners.
  • Request Individual & Team Custom Training: Technology training sessions structured around individual or group learning objectives.
  • Provide Training: Share your subject matter expertise by providing training to the John Carroll community.

Qualtrics is a powerful, online-based tool used to create surveys and store their results. This workshop will cover the basic tools of Qualtrics - you will learn how to create a survey, as well as view the results of that survey.

11/13/19 Creating and Grading Online Assignments in Canvas

Instructors can create online assignments for students to submit their assignments through Canvas. Online assignments in Canvas can be used to challenge students' understanding and help assess competency by using a variety of media and yet are easy to grade using Canvas Rubrics and the Speedgrader.

Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Set up online submissions that can be quickly graded using Rubrics in the SpeedGrader

  • Grade online as well as student work submitted "on-paper"

  • Create assignment groups

  • Create differentiated assignments for sections

  • Set up peer reviews

  • Assess submissions with moderated grading and multiple reviewers

  • Enable and configure Turnitin to automatically check student submissions for plagiarism

11/21/19 The New Canvas Gradebook

Instructure has released a redesigned Gradebook for Canvas with many new features. JCU instructors currently have the option of using either the current grade book or the new Gradebook. Beginning with the Spring 2020 semester, however, the new Canvas Gradebook will be enabled by default in all JCU courses and the legacy Canvas Gradebook will no longer be available.

This workshop will prepare instructors to begin using the new Canvas Gradebook. Upon successful completion of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Enable the new Gradebook in their Canvas courses
  • Use the key features that are exclusive to the new Gradebook
  • Employ the extra functionality that the new Gradebook adds to the features of the current Gradebook
  • Identify where functions of the current Gradebook have been moved or involve changed icons
  • Compare how the instructors' view of the Gradebook differs from the student perspective
