The Vice President for University Advancement and Corporate Secretary to the Board is the chief advancement officer for the University and advises the President and the Board on all matters pertaining to the management and operations of development, alumni relations, advancement services, and board relations. This includes oversight of all policies and programs related to major and planned giving, annual giving, special campaign, alumni and parent engagement events and online activities, the alumni magazine and the alumni medal awards, donor stewardship and annual donor reports, and serving as the chief fundraiser for the institution along with the President.
Doreen Knapp Riley
Doreen Knapp Riley has led the university advancement division since June 2017. She was asked to serve as corporate secretary to the University Board of Directors in May . She is an experienced higher education and nonprofit leader having successfully led several $100 million+ campaigns. She guides fundraising operations, higher education strategy, board governance, donor and alumni engagement including in-person, online, and print. Prior to joining JCU, she served as director of foundation programs for the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges for eight years; vice president for development for the Aspen Institute for 3 years; deputy director of the Olympic Village for the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games; and major gift officer for the University of Georgia and Kent State University. She is the immediate past chair of the Jesuit Advancement Administrators and former member of Government Affairs Council for the Greater Cleveland Partnership. She holds a M.S. degree from the University of Georgia and a B.S. degree from The Ohio State University.
Karen Krakowiak is the point of contact for University Advancement and the Board of Directors. Karen came to John Carroll in 2012, with several years of experience in higher education and the public sector. She has worked with Annual Giving, Development and Advancement Services and now provides support for Doreen Riley, VP for University Advancement and Corporate Secretary.
