Both Teacher Education programs are committed to excellence in preparing candidates as leaders in service. Candidates in Teacher Education demonstrate their development of knowledge, skills, and dispositions through multiple assessments. The data provide strong evidence that undergraduate and graduate candidates demonstrate competencies that positively affect learning of P-12 students.

John Carroll University’s Department of Education meets rigorous national standards for educator preparation set by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). CAEP promotes excellence in educator preparation through quality assurance and continuous improvement. The Department of Education at JCU has earned national accreditation by demonstrating excellence in the areas of content pedagogy, clinical experiences, selectivity, program impact, and capacity for continuous improvement.

  • Performance data on our candidates' success and how we evaluate our program for consistent improvement.
  • Information about the Ohio Assessments for Educators (OAEs), the exams that all candidates must pass to receive their teaching license.
  • Information about the edTPA, the capstone assessment that all candidates complete in the second semester of their clinical year. This assessment integrates all the learning done throughout the program into a practical, performance-based assessment.
