Federalwide Assurance:

John Carroll University has a Federalwide Assurance (FWA) with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) for the protection of human research subjects. Through the terms of the FWA, John Carroll University commits to DHHS that it will comply with the requirements found in the DHHS Protection of Human Subjects regulations at 45 CFR part 46. The FWA covers all non-exempt human subjects research submitted at JCU that is conducted or supported by DHHS, or funded by any other federal agency. However, JCU voluntarily extends its FWA to cover all human subject research, regardless of the source of funding, including human subject research conducted by JCU students. John Carroll University will also extend its FWA to cover human subject research conducted by external research partners with whom JCU has established an agreement. See External Research Partners for more information.

More information about Federalwide Assurance can be found at the DHHS-OHRP website.
