The Edward M. Muldoon Center for Entrepreneurship was created in 1999 with a gift from Mr. Muldoon, a 1948 John Carroll graduate, and a matching gift from the Boler Challenge Fund, to establish a permanent home for the entrepreneurship program of the University. The Muldoon Center’s objective is to inspire the John Carroll University campus and stakeholder communities to launch innovative change that creates value.

The Center guides curious students to identify and solve big problems and launch big solutions using their innate creativity and passion.

According to national statistics, 75% of all entrepreneurs today started as arts and sciences majors. Thus, the center offers any student, regardless of major, a unique series of opportunities to learn, apply, and practice their entrepreneurial skills in a real-world setting. The academic and co-curricular programs under the Muldoon Center umbrella allow students to develop their creativity, and innovative ideas, to work with and learn from business owners, and to participate in local, regional and national competitions.

The Minor in Entrepreneurship developed with the assistance of the Burton D. Morgan Foundation. The program is ranked in the top 25 nationally concentrating on innovation, creativity, and idea development. The minor is designed to complement every major on campus, and is grounded in the University’s values-based Jesuit education, which emphasizes critical thinking, ethics, global issues, reflection, and service to others.

The Master of Science in Innovation and Entrepreneurship graduate degree was created by entrepreneurs and innovators to train future entrepreneurs and innovators. Whether you’re a marketer, engineer, healthcare professional, or anything in between, you have the opportunity to revolutionize your space if you can think differently. The program requires 30-39 credit hours (depending on the number of foundational business prerequisite courses that may be required) and includes an international study tour.

Bachelor of Arts in Leadership & Social Innovation focuses on the problems present in today’s world. These issues demand the attention of society’s brightest leaders and entrepreneurs, who don’t hesitate to demonstrate courage, compassion, and creativity to address the many needs surrounding us. To prepare future innovators, we must cultivate emerging leaders by equipping them with the skills and mindsets they need to affect meaningful change in conscientious and impactful ways. Students will be guided through in-depth study across disciplines and learn to apply their learning to lead efforts to create sustainable impact in their communities and beyond. Students will further sharpen their habits of reflection and self-awareness in order to engage successfully with clients and partners, will employ leadership and collaborative skills, and will actively advocate for inclusion and social justice;

Social Innovation Fellows is one of the four Signature Scholarship Programs available to incoming freshman. This program is a scholarship and growth opportunity for incoming John Carroll University freshmen dedicated to becoming social innovators and entrepreneurs inspired by Ignatian values. This fellowship produces graduates who can identify opportunities for innovation in the marketplace and can design and execute solutions for sustainable social change.

The entrepreneurship program at John Carroll opens doors for students who gain entrepreneurial skills and knowledge from our business, STEM, and liberal arts faculty, and through hands-on experiences with entrepreneurs who volunteer to coach our students.

Speakers Series

Each semester, the Muldoon Entrepreneur Experience Series welcomes entrepreneurs and innovators who will share their experience and advice with our faculty, students, and invited guests. The seminars provide a venue where Boler and College of Arts and Sciences students and faculty can learn about and be inspired to develop an entrepreneurial mindset and entrepreneurial ventures.

John J. Kahl, Sr. Student Hatchery

Students pitch their ideas and, if accepted, get paired with a mentor from the Entrepreneurs’ Association. The Hatchery provides designated workspace where students are guided through the process of fully developing their product or business.

The Entrepreneurs’ Association is a peer group of private company business owners, housed in The Edward M. Muldoon Center for Entrepreneurship at John Carroll University. Students can find coaching, mentorship, and timely advice from this team of entrepreneur volunteers, 80% of whom are principal shareholders of private companies that are at least five years old, with at least $1 million annual revenues.”
