The following funds are awarded to incoming first-year students. To be considered for these awards, students must fill out the JCU Class of 2026 Scholarship Application, which they will receive information about via email. The deadline to apply for these awards is January 15, 2022. Application decisions will be made by mid-February.

 

Academic Scholarships

Boler College of Business: KeyBank Foundation Scholarship
$5,000

This scholarship is awarded to a African-American, Black, Hispanic, and/or Latinx first-year student with financial need enrolled in the Boler College of Business.

Classics: Castellano Scholarship
One Full-tuition

This full-tuition, four-year scholarship is available to an incoming first-year student who has studied Latin at the secondary level for at least three years and intends to major in Classical Languages at JCU. Many recipients of the Castellano Scholarship also major in a second field of their choice in addition to classics. In order to retain the scholarship, students must enroll in a Latin or Greek class each semester and maintain a 3.0 average in the major and overall. 

Chemistry Department: Edmund B. Thomas Scholarship
$1,500

This scholarship is awarded to an outstanding incoming first-year student who intends to pursue a major in Chemistry. It is renewable annually as long as the recipient continues their study of Chemistry with a GPA of 3.0 or better.

English Department: Francis J. Smith S.J. Scholar
$1,250

This scholarship is awarded to an incoming first-year student planning to study English with an interest in Creative Writing. A HS GPA of 3.4 or SAT above 1100 is required.

Janet Boockoff Scholarship
$10,000

This scholarship is available to an incoming student from Cuyahoga County with an interest in Pre-Health Professions.

Mastin Scholarship
$14,000

This scholarship is presented to an incoming first-year student with a major in Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, or Biology. 

Matt Crozier Endowed Scholarship
$5,500

This scholarship is awarded to an incoming first-year student planning to study in the Boler College of Business.

Physics Department: Lawrence J. Monville, S. J. Scholarship 
$2,000

This scholarship is awarded to an outstanding incoming first-year student with high academic achievement who intends to pursue a major in Physics or Engineering Physics. Students interested in the 3-2 Engineering program are also eligible. This scholarship renews annually as long as the recipient continues to pursue a major in the Physics Department with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

The Robert J. Kolesar Scholarship in Mathematics, Computer Science, and Data Science
$2,000

This scholarship is renewable each year upon maintaining satisfactory progress (GPA of at least 2.75) toward a degree offered by the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science:  Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with Healthcare Information Technology, Bachelor of Science in Data Science, or Bachelor of Arts in Teaching Mathematics.

STEM Major: Choose Ohio First Scholarship

This scholarship is designed to strengthen Ohio’s competitiveness within Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medicine (STEMM).  Students must be Ohio residents intending to major in a STEMM discipline (Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Data Science, Exercise Science, Mathematics, Physics, or Neuroscience) at JCU.  Recipients are required to maintain a 3.0 overall GPA and a 3.0 STEMM GPA each year to renew this award. 

Vincent Campanella Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to an incoming first-year student intending to study in the Boler College of Business. 

 

Alumni Scholarships

Alumni Board Scholarship
$3,000

This scholarship is awarded to an incoming first-year student who is a child of an alumnus. 

Class of 1961 Scholarship
$3,000

This scholarship is awarded to an incoming first-year student with financial need.

Class of 1964 Scholarship
$5,700

This award is available to an incoming first-year student who is a child or relative of a member of the Class of 1964. 

Iota Chi Upsilon Alumni Scholarship
$5,000

This scholarship is awarded to a son, daughter, niece, nephew, or grandchild of a JCU alumnus who was a member of Iota Chi Upsilon. 

John W. Ray Scholarship
$1,750

This scholarship is awarded to an incoming first-year student with a 2.75 GPA, who has displayed evidence of leadership. Priority is given to a relative of the 1959-1963 JCU football teams. 

Karen Schipke Scholarship
$2,900

This scholarship is awarded to a student who is a relative of a 1985 graduate of JCU.

 

Regional Scholarships

Akron/Canton Area Scholarships

William Henkel Scholarship
$3,000

This scholarship is awarded to an incoming first-year student who is a graduate of St. Vincent-St. Mary High School or Walsh Jesuit High School.

 

Central Ohio Area Scholarships

Brian & Janine Mortellaro Scholarship
$1,000

The Brian & Jane Mortellaro Scholarship is awarded yearly to one incoming student from Guernsey, Muskingum, Knox, Franklin, Licking, Morrow, or Holmes Counties in Ohio.

Central Ohio Alumni Scholarship
$2,000

This scholarship is intended for a student from the greater Columbus, Ohio area who is involved in extracurricular activities and displays evidence of leadership while maintaining a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Mark Schell Scholarship
$1,675

This scholarship is awarded to an incoming first-year student from Central Ohio. The recipient must have a minimum GPA of 2.75, an inspiring attitude, a positive influence on peers, and provide service to others.

 

Chicago Area Scholarships

Cavanagh Scholarship
$1,250

The Cavanagh Scholarship provides support for an incoming first-year student from St. Viator High School in Chicago.                                                                    

The Charles McGarrity Scholarship
$1,200

This scholarship is awarded to a student from any Catholic high school in Chicago, Illinois. Preference is given to students from Loyola Academy High School with a minimum GPA of 2.75.

Chicago Alumni Chapter Leadership Scholarship
$5,000

This scholarship is intended for an individual from the Chicago area who has proven that they will be a leader while at JCU. 

The Fenwick Alumni/Michael Begg '82 Scholarship

The Fenwick Alumni/Michael Begg '82 Scholarship is awarded to a student from Fenwick High School in Chicago who exhibits strong leadership.

Marie Lynch Julius '83 Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a female first-year student from St. Viator High School or Mother McAuley High School in Illinois.

Michael McDonagh Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to an incoming student from North Lawndale Preparatory High School in Chicago, IL.

Sansone Scholarship
$2,000

This scholarship is awarded to a graduate of Leo Catholic High School in Chicago, IL or any Cristo Rey Network high school. The recipient must have a minimum GPA of 2.8 and demonstrated leadership qualities.

 

Cleveland Area Scholarships

Father Hurtado Scholarship
Up to full tuition

This scholarship is awarded to an incoming first-year student from St. Martin de Porres High School in Cleveland, OH.

Father Michael J. Lavelle, S.J. Cleveland Alumni Chapter Scholarship
$2,000

In honor of Fr. Lavelle, who made a lasting impact on the JCU and Cleveland community, this scholarship is made available to incoming first-year students from the greater Cleveland area who have shown extracurricular and leadership involvement.

James Clark Scholarship
$1,200

This scholarship is awarded to an incoming first-year student with financial need from Benedictine High School.

John Huntington Scholarship
$3,000

Several scholarships will be awarded through the generosity of the Huntington Foundation to Cuyahoga residents. Recipients must have a GPA of at least 2.5 and must be majoring in science, math, psychology, or accounting and have demonstrated need.

Kevin Thomas Hurley ’72 Scholarship
$1,400

This scholarship is awarded to a graduate of Benedictine High School.

Merriman/Callahan Scholarship
$1,750

This scholarship is awarded to an incoming first-year student who is a Cleveland resident with a minimum GPA of 2.8 at a Cleveland public high school or a high school in the Cleveland Diocese and desires to become a teacher. 

Sandusky St. Mary Scholarship
$1,125

This scholarship is awarded to an incoming first-year student from St. Mary Central Catholic High School in Sandusky, OH with a minimum GPA of 3.25. 

Wasmer Scholarship
$1,925

This award is presented to an incoming first-year student from Cleveland Central Catholic High School with a minimum GPA of 2.75.

Yonto Family Scholarship
$2,450

This scholarship is awarded to an Orrville High School graduate with a 2.75 GPA and evidence of leadership. Candidates from Archbishop Hoban, St. Vincent-St. Mary, and Canton Central Catholic will also be considered.

 

Detroit Area Scholarships

Deneweth Scholarship
$2,700

This scholarship is awarded to an incoming first-year student from Michigan who has shown leadership and has a minimum GPA of 3.25. Preference is given to students from Brother Rice High School or Marian High School in Bloomfield Hills, MI.

Muer Detroit Scholarship
$2,500

This scholarship is awarded to a student from Detroit, Michigan with financial need.

 

Ohio Area Scholarships

Heltzel Scholarship
$1,375

This award is presented to a graduate of JFK High School in Warren, OH who has a minimum 2.50 GPA and has demonstrated leadership qualities.  

Sandusky St. Mary Scholarship
$1,125

This scholarship is awarded to an incoming student from St. Mary Central Catholic High School in Sandusky, Ohio, with a minimum GPA of 3.25.

 

Western Pennsylvania Area Scholarships

Erie Cathedral Prep/Villa Maria Scholarship
$3,500 

This award is available to a graduate of Erie Cathedral Preparatory School or Villa Maria Academy in Erie, PA who has maintained a minimum GPA of 3.0 and has an ACT of 24, or an SAT of 1000.

Pittsburgh Scholarship
$1,700

This scholarship is awarded to an incoming first-year student from Pittsburgh, PA with strong academic credentials and financial need. 

 

Western New York Area Scholarships

Mastrantoni Family Scholarship
$5,000

The Mastrantoni Scholarship is designated for students from Western New York who present the greatest financial need. Preference is given to graduates of St. Francis High School in Hamburg, NY.

Tim Russert Endowed Scholarship
$2,000

This scholarship provides financial support to incoming first-year students demonstrating financial need from the Buffalo, NY area.

 

Wisconsin Area Scholarships

Mr. and Mrs. Brian Henke '77 Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to an incoming student with a 3.0 GPA from Marquette University High School, Pius XI Catholic High School, or St. Mary Central High School in Wisconsin.

 

Special Interest Scholarships

Bernadette M. Murphy Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to an incoming student who has danced with Murphy Irish Arts in Cleveland, OH a minimum of five years. A minimum GPA of 2.80 is required. 

Cura Personalis Scholarship
$1,000 - $5,000

This scholarship is awarded to incoming first-year students who have demonstrated leadership and involvement in service throughout their high school years.

Debbie Wilson Scholarship
$5,000

This scholarship is awarded to an incoming student from a Cristo Rey High School. Preference is given to a student from Atlanta, Georgia.

Gregory Thompson Scholarship
$2,350

This scholarship is presented to an employee or child of an employee of MTD Products Inc. and Shiloh Industries Inc.

Harold F. 81' and Diane Hawk Scholarship
$3,400

This Scholarship is awarded to a first-year student with a minimum GPA of 2.75 who has a proven history of involvement in extracurricular activities and evidence of leadership.

Howard and Mary Anne Hanna Endowed Scholarship
$2,000

This scholarship is available to assist an incoming student who is a relative of a Howard Hanna Employee. FAFSA completion is preferred. Recipients must meet academic standards. 

Mildred P. Bach Scholarship
$2,000

This award is provided to an incoming first-year student who has proven himself or herself to have the highest academic credentials.

Nader Scholarship
$10,000

This scholarship is awarded to a well-rounded student with financial need, working to fund their education.

Noll Institute for Future Leaders Scholarship
$5,000

This scholarship is awarded to an incoming student who has displayed evidence of leadership throughout their high school years.
