Diocese of Cleveland

100% tuition waivers are granted to Catholic Priests of any order working within the Diocese of Cleveland.

50% tuition waivers are granted to members of Religious Orders (Deacons, Brothers, Nuns) working within the Diocese of Cleveland.

In order to qualify for the commitment, you must be enrolled in graduate courses at John Carroll University.  

Jesuit Commitment

100% tuition waivers are granted to any member of the Jesuit Religious Orders.

FJV Graduate Scholarship 

Former Jesuit Volunteers will now receive a $1,000 tuition scholarship during each semester in which they are enrolled in an eligible master’s degree program. Eligible students would apply through their application for admission. There are a limited amount of scholarships and will be awarded on a first-come basis. All students are automatically considered for the following Awards and Scholarships. No separate application is required.

JCU GRADUATE BOLER DEAN’S AWARD*

Award: $4,800

Eligibility: JCU graduates must enter the MBA program within 3 semesters of earning

their undergraduate degree in order to qualify for this award.

GRADUATE: BOLER MAGIS SCHOLARSHIP*

Award: $3,600

Eligibility: Undergraduate cumulative grade point average must be 3.5/4.0 or higher.

GRADUATE: BOLER PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLARSHIP*

Award: $4800

Eligibility: Undergraduate cumulative grade point average must be 3.5/4.0 or higher AND

official, qualifying GMAT or GRE scores.

*IMPORTANT: The scholarships and awards listed above are allocated to tuition costs proportionally across semesters in which students are enrolled a minimum of six credit hours. The scholarship or award will continue for up to six semesters or until the amount is exhausted or until graduation, whichever occurs first. Because the award is allocated proportionally based on the number of credit hours enrolled, the total scholarship or award as stated may not be awarded if the degree is not completed within six semesters. Scholarships, awards and eligibility are subject to change. Eligible students may only receive one institutional scholarship or award and awards may not be combined with graduate assistantship tuition awards or accounting fellowships or scholarships.

ACCOUNTING FELLOWSHIPS AND SCHOLARSHIPS**

Students who have earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting are automatically considered for the following  fellowships and Scholarships. No additional application is required. The fellowships and scholarships are awarded competitively based upon the highest undergraduate academic achievements in accountancy for each entering class with additional consideration given for demonstrated excellence in character, leadership, work ethic and/or service to others.

**IMPORTANT: Accounting fellowships and scholarships are allocated to tuition costs proportionally across semesters for which students are enrolled a minimum of nine credit hours. Because the award is allocated proportionally based on the number of credit hours enrolled, the total fellowship or scholarship as stated may not be awarded if the degree is not completed within three semesters. Scholarships, fellowships and awards eligibility are subject to change. Eligible students may only receive one accounting fellowship or scholarship and the fellowship or scholarship may not be combined with any other institutional scholarships or award or graduate assistantship tuition awards.

These scholarships require an additional application. 

Sally H. Wertheim Educational Leadership Award

This scholarship recognizes an outstanding graduate student who not only demonstrates scholarship, character, and commitment to others — qualities steeped in the Jesuit tradition — but who also seeks to enhance, and shows promise for improving, the educational experiences of children and youth. Candidates for the award must be a currently active teacher enrolled in a graduate degree program in education at John Carroll.

Requirements for the award include acceptance to a degree granting, graduate education program at John Carroll.  Also required are:

• A resume

• A copy of a valid teaching license

• An application

• An official undergraduate transcript with a minimum grade point average of 3.0

• Three letters of recommendation that describe academic and professional accomplishments and community service

• A 500-word essay that demonstrates how the candidate plans to make a difference in the educational experiences of children and youth

The selection process begins in the fall semester with the formation of a selection committee that includes the Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, a Wertheim family member, the chair of the Education and School Psychology Department, and a department faculty member appointed by the chair. The deadline for applications and supporting documentation is the last Friday in February. Finalists will be contacted for a personal interview, and the award is announced and presented during the spring semester. The scholarship may be applied to tuition only (full- or part- time), and must be used within a 5-year period.

The scholarship amount is $5,000. The scholarship fund’s principal may increase in future years through gifts made by friends inclined to continue their support.

The William P. Hoffman Scholarship

The purpose of this scholarship is to recognize and support an outstanding graduate student in the Education department each year in anticipation of the contributions which the recipient will make as a future school administrator.

Requirements for the award include:

• 15 semester hours of graduate work at John Carroll University with at least 6 hours in Educational Administration courses with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher

• An application

• A resume

• An official undergraduate transcript with a minimum grade point average of 3.0

• Two letters of recommendation that speak to the applicants potential as a leader in education

• And a 500-word essay that addresses why the applicant would like to become an administrator

The selection committee includes a Hoffman family member, the coordinator of the graduate programs in education and a faculty member of the Educational Administration program appointed by the chair. The deadline for applications and supporting documentation is usually in March of each year. Finalists are contacted for a personal interview, and the award is announced and presented during the spring semester. The scholarship may be applied to tuition only (full- or part- time), and must be used within a 5-year period.

The scholarship amount is $1,000. The scholarship fund is principal may increase in future years through gifts made by friends inclined to continue their support.

Beta Chi Chapter Counseling Award

This award recognizes an outstanding student member of the Chi Sigma Iota International Counseling Society who is enrolled in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program.
